Dry Needling or Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) is an effective method in the treatment of chronic pain associated with shortened muscles and/or neuropathies.
Dry Needling is similar to traditional acupuncture in that a very fine needle is inserted into certain points in a muscle.
It focuses on releasing shortened muscles which press on and irritate the nerve. Neuropathic pain occurs when a nerve becomes supersensitive to stimuli that would normally be interpreted as harmless.
Physiotherapists often use Dry Needling along with traditional treatment techniques to maximize the amount of healing in the body.
